NAINITAL: A 32-year-old man died after falling unconscious at a hotel in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani following a suspected overdose of an energy-boosting drug, police said on Wednesday.




The man, a resident of Haldwani’s Gaula Gate-–Rajpura area, checked into the hotel on Tuesday evening with a 30-year-old woman from Delhi, who was believed to be his girlfriend. He fell unconscious during the night.




The woman and hotel staff then took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Station house officer Vijay Singh Mehta said the man might have consumed an excessive dose of an energy-boosting drug.




“The exact cause of death will be known after the postmortem report ,” Mehta said. Police detained the woman for questioning to establish what happened before the man fell ill.




The man was survived by his wife and two children. Police said the woman was also married and had two children.
