Bills Survive Overtime Turnover to Beat Rams

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Josh Allen’s scrambling, Greg Rousseau’s field goal block and Tyler Bass’ decisive kick helped the Buffalo Bills overcome the Los Angeles Rams 37-34 in overtime Monday night.

Allen finished with 331 total yards and two touchdowns. Bass delivered the winner from 45 yards with 1:55 remaining in the extra period.

Buffalo’s opportunity came shortly after Rousseau blocked a Rams field goal attempt, rescuing the Bills following an overtime fumble.

Allen Earns First Career Overtime Victory

Allen passed for 210 yards and ran for another 121 as Buffalo improved to 4-1.

It was his first career overtime victory and the Bills’ sixth 4-1 start in eight seasons, though their first under rookie head coach Joe Brady.

Across the field, Matthew Stafford threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns in a matchup featuring the NFL’s two most recent MVP quarterbacks.

James Cook scored his second touchdown with 1:39 left in regulation, putting Buffalo ahead.

Stafford answered by completing six of seven passes on a drive that reached the Bills’ 1-yard line.

Rather than use a timeout, Los Angeles handed the ball to Kyren Williams, who scored with four seconds remaining to force overtime.

The finish followed a game featuring six consecutive lead changes.

Earlier, Davante Adams’ second touchdown reception with 7:14 left had given the Rams the advantage before Allen led Buffalo on a 71-yard scoring drive featuring two important scrambles.

Rousseau’s Block Gives Buffalo Another Chance

Buffalo drove into Rams territory on the opening overtime possession, but Cook fumbled after Nate Landman punched the ball loose.

Aaron Donald recovered for Los Angeles.

Stafford then moved the Rams to Buffalo’s 30-yard line. After a conservative third-down call, Los Angeles attempted a field goal.

Rousseau got a hand on Mevis’ kick, his second unsuccessful field goal attempt of the evening, keeping the Bills alive.

Bass Converts After Allen’s Scrambles

Allen responded with runs of 19 and 13 yards, advancing Buffalo into field goal range.

Brady chose to attempt the kick on second down with nearly two minutes remaining.

Bass struck the 45-yarder and began celebrating before officials signaled that it was good.

McVay Regrets Conservative Overtime Decision

McVay also questioned his own play-calling before the blocked attempt.

Mevis’ three missed field goals this season are the most in the league.

Los Angeles fell to 2-3, marking the fourth time in five seasons that the Rams have been below .500 after five games.

Nacua Sets Career High as Adams Reaches Milestone

Puka Nacua caught a career-high 17 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Adams’ two scoring catches moved him into a tie with Larry Fitzgerald for sixth in NFL history with 121 touchdown receptions.

Blake Choir added a rushing touchdown, while tight end Tyler Higbee caught five passes for 83 yards.

Keon Coleman caught Allen’s lone touchdown pass for Buffalo.

The offensive battle followed another high-scoring meeting between the teams in December 2024, when the Rams won 44-42 and the teams combined for 902 yards.

Buffalo’s Rushing Attack Produces 234 Yards

Cook rushed for 111 yards, although his overtime fumble threatened to undo Buffalo’s comeback.

Allen gained more than 100 rushing yards on scrambles, repeatedly escaping the pocket when the Rams’ secondary covered his receivers.

The Bills finished with 234 yards on the ground.

Injuries and Upcoming Games

Bills right tackle Spencer Brown left during the second half with a back injury.

Wide receiver DJ Moore did not play because of a shoulder injury.

Buffalo visits Las Vegas on Sunday, while the Rams host Arizona.
