The Philadelphia Eagles suffered another major injury blow during their Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, as star running back Saquon Barkley was forced out of the game with a hamstring injury. Barkley was injured early in the first quarter on just his second carry of the afternoon. The Eagles running back took the handoff and picked up six yards, but appeared to pull up as he reached the sideline. He was seen limping and grabbing the back of his right leg before Eagles trainers accompanied him to the medical tent for evaluation.

Eagles dealt major blow as Saquon Barkley exits Rams game with injuryThe initial diagnosis left Barkley listed as questionable to return, giving Philadelphia some hope that its star running back could eventually get back onto the field. However, that possibility was later ruled out when the Eagles officially announced that Barkley would miss the remainder of the game because of the hamstring injury.

Barkley finished the afternoon with only two carries for eight yards and one reception for two yards before his early departure. His absence immediately forced the Eagles to turn to their running-back depth, with Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley taking over the workload in the backfield.

The timing of the injury is particularly concerning for Philadelphia because the Eagles were already dealing with a lengthy list of absences on offense. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith was ruled out with a hamstring injury and was expected to miss multiple games, while Dallas Goedert and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown were also unavailable against Los Angeles. All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson was inactive as well, leaving the Eagles without several important pieces of their offense.

Barkley had entered the Rams game as Philadelphia’s leading rusher through the first three weeks of the season. He had recorded 174 rushing yards heading into Week 4, while quarterback Jalen Hurts ranked second on the team with 87 rushing yards.

That made Barkley’s early departure an especially significant setback for an Eagles offense that was already operating without some of its biggest weapons.

The injury also comes after Barkley dealt with another issue earlier this season. He missed most of Philadelphia’s Week 2 game against Tennessee after suffering a stinger, although he returned to action and played in the following games.

Barkley’s history against the Rams makes the latest injury even more notable. He had previously produced two huge performances against Los Angeles, including a franchise-record 255 rushing yards in 2024 and a playoff-record 205 rushing yards in 2025.

For now, the biggest question is whether Sunday’s hamstring injury will cost Barkley more than just the remainder of the Rams game. The Eagles have ruled him out for the afternoon, but there is no confirmed timetable for his return yet.
