Kolkata: The father of a 19-year-old BBA student , who was found hanging at her rented apartment at Milan Nagar, Nabapally, in Salt Lake Sector IV last week, has lodged a complaint of abetment to suicide at Bidhannagar South Police Station , alleging two flatmates of his daughter mentally harassed her.




In his complaint, the Dhanbad resident alleged the two girls intimidated and mentally tormented his daughter, who had objected to them frequently staying away all night. The father said the two girls feared his daughter would tell their parents about their “misdeeds” and intimidated her.




The teenaged girl studied BBA at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Sciences in Salt Lake. Around 5 pm on Sept 17, one of her two flatmates allegedly called her father and told him his daughter had locked herself inside her room and was not responding. The father kept calling on her mobile but did not get any response. He alleged the flatmate, too, did not take his calls later. Around 7.45 pm, the landlord reportedly told the father that his daughter had died by suicide, that police had arrived and taken her to hospital.




The family went to Bidhannagar South PS. A post-mortem was held the next day.




The father alleged his daughter had told her sister about the harassment by the two girls.




“We broke open the door to find the girl hanging. The two girls claimed they were at college and when they returned, they found the room locked. We have started a probe,” said a senior Bidhannagar City Police officer.
