Dhamtari. In view of the continuous rains in Dhamtari district and the increasing inflow of water into the reservoirs, the district administration has issued an alert in the villages situated on the banks of Mahanadi. The water level of reservoirs and the condition of rivers and drains are being continuously monitored by the administration.
According to the information received at 8 am on September 3, waterlogging in the major reservoirs of the district has become very high. Gangrel reservoir is filled 97.40 percent, Murrumsilli 98.61 percent, Dudhwa 86.86 percent and Sondhur reservoir 69.25 percent.
In view of the continuous inflow of water into the reservoirs, a total of 4670 cusecs of water is being released from the three gates of Gangrel reservoir. In this, 1410 cusecs of water is being released into Mahanadi main canal through Rudri Barrage and 3360 cusecs of water is being released into Mahanadi river.
In view of the inflow of water into the reservoirs and the possibility of upcoming rains, there is a possibility of further rise in the water level of Mahanadi. In view of this, instructions have been given to exercise special caution in the villages situated on the river banks.
The administration has appealed to the villagers not to go near rivers, drains and waterlogged areas and not to try to cross the river unnecessarily.
People living in low-lying and sensitive areas have been advised to take special precautions and if necessary, go to safe and higher places identified by the administration.
The concerned officers, field staff and local administration are continuously monitoring the situation in sensitive areas and instructions have been given to take people to safe places if necessary.
Collector Abinash Mishra has appealed to the people of the district that in view of the good inflow of water in the reservoirs, the administration is constantly monitoring the entire situation.
People of villages situated on the banks of Mahanadi should take special care and maintain sufficient distance from the river and waterlogged areas in view of the rising water level.
He has instructed the officials to regularly monitor the water level of rivers and reservoirs and to provide timely information to sensitive areas. In case of any emergency, the concerned departments have been asked to ensure quick action through mutual coordination.
The administration has appealed to the citizens not to let children go near rivers and streams, stay away from water-logged areas and not believe in any rumor and only believe in authorized information. If necessary, immediately move to safe and higher places.
