The meeting of the District Level Monitoring Committee under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme was held in the Vikas Bhawan Auditorium under the chairmanship of the Chief Development Officer. In the meeting, the progress of Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme and Reorganized Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme was reviewed. The Chief Development Officer directed all the bank coordinators to compulsorily get the Kharif crops insured before 31st August for farmers holding Kisan Credit Card (KCC). He said that more and more farmers should be insured for Kharif crops like paddy, millet, maize and chilli, so that farmers can get the benefit of compensation in case of damage to crops due to natural disasters.


In the meeting, the Deputy Agriculture Director told that under the Crop Insurance Scheme, last year a compensation of Rs 4 crore 87 lakh was provided to 1,364 farmers in the Kharif season and Rs 62 lakh 37 thousand was provided to 563 farmers in the Rabi season. Under the reorganized weather-based crop insurance scheme, compensation of Rs 3 crore 62 lakh was given to 3,902 farmers. He said that it is mandatory for all banks to provide crop insurance to farmers holding KCC. Farmers who do not want to get their crop insurance done, will have to inform in writing in their respective bank branch before August 24. The Chief Development Officer directed the bank officials that no carelessness should be taken in providing the benefits of crop insurance scheme to the eligible farmers and the insurance process should be completed within the stipulated time limit.
