Ranga Reddy. Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple, located in Ammapalli village of Shamshabad in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana, is not just a religious place but a wonderful confluence of architecture, history and Indian culture. This nearly 1,000-year-old temple is known across the country for its unique architecture, Ramayana period beliefs and its deep association with Telugu cinema (Tollywood). This historical heritage has also been appreciated by UNESCO.
History to Tretayug and unique mythological beliefs to the temple.
According to religious beliefs, Lord Shri Ram, Mother Sita and Lakshman ji rested for some time at this place during their 14 years of exile. This is the reason why only the idols of Shri Ram, Mata Sita and Lakshman ji are installed in the main sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The biggest specialty of this temple is that the statues of Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshmana are carved out of a single black stone (Ekashila). Images of Dashavatara are also carved on this single stone. Generally, in all Ram temples, there is a statue of Hanuman ji inside the sanctum sanctorum, but here Hanuman ji is not inside the sanctum sanctorum but is standing outside near the flag pillar of the temple. It is believed that this scene is from the time when Shri Ram had not met Hanuman ji, hence he is sitting outside waiting for orders.
Chalukya period architecture, grand gopuram and UNESCO honour.
The Ammapalli temple is believed to be built in the 13th century during the reign of the Kalyani Chalukya kings. The main entrance of the temple is about 80 feet high and seven storeyed 'Gali Gopuram' (entrance), which is famous for its rare blend of Rajasthani and South Indian architecture. There is a huge historical water tank (Pushkarini) and step well near the temple complex, which is surrounded by coconut trees and carved pillars. Given its unmatched architecture and antiquity, UNESCO has praised it as a major heritage site.
lucky charm of telugu cinema
Witnessing more than 400 superhit films, this temple has a special identity in the Telugu film industry (Tollywood). There is a belief among Tollywood directors and producers that the films shot in this temple are superhits at the box office. Till now, more than 400 films, TV serials and songs have been shot here. Key scenes of many big films like Mahesh Babu superstar 'Murari', Pawan Kalyan's 'Teenmaar', and Prabhas's 'Mr Perfect' have been shot in this temple and its Pushkarini complex.
