New Delhi: The people of Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Haryana are finally going to get relief from the sticky humidity that has been troubling them for the last several days. North-west dry winds have arrived in north-west India, due to which a positive change is being seen in the weather patterns. This sudden change in weather is due to change in the position of monsoon trough. The main line of monsoon has now shifted towards the Himalayan foothills, which has changed the mathematics of rainfall across North India.

Rain will increase on the mountains

Till August 17, there is no possibility of heavy or widespread rainfall over most parts of Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Haryana, with only light drizzle at isolated places in the evening.

On the other hand, due to the movement of the trough line in the Terai, monsoon activities will intensify in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and adjacent hilly areas and heavy rains may be seen there.

Meteorologists say that north-westerly winds blowing at a speed of more than 10 kilometers per hour are bringing dry air to this area. There will be no huge drop in day temperature, but due to reduced level of moisture present in the air, there will be a clear reduction in the 'real-feel' temperature. The weather in the area is expected to remain mainly dry for the next two days.

Wind direction will change again from 18th August

This period of relief is not going to last very long. Weather forecast models indicate that the weather may take a turn once again between August 18 and 20. A new low pressure area is forming in the Bay of Bengal, which will gradually move towards the plains. As this weather system progresses, it will pull the monsoon trough towards the south again. Due to its effect, monsoon rains may resume in North-West India by mid-week and weekend. At present, heavy rain activity will continue over East-Central Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh for the next two days, while Delhi and its neighboring states will enjoy humidity-free clear weather.
