Punjab News: Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. Taking stock of the progress of road development works across Punjab during a meeting held at Punjab Bhawan on Thursday, he said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to providing better transport network to the people of the state.

45,000 Construction and renovation work of kilometer roads continues

The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is carrying out construction and renovation works of 45,000 kilometers of roads in the state. During the meeting, he evaluated the assembly constituency-wise and division-wise status of the ongoing works to state roads and link roads falling under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department.

Instructions for continuous inspection of roads during monsoon season

Emphasizing on completing the works within the stipulated time, the Cabinet Minister directed all the officers to maintain smooth traffic by continuously inspecting the roads under the department during the monsoon season. During the monsoon season when look work cannot be carried out, W. B. M. was also taught to prepare the roads for cleaning works after rain by rolling them. He directed the officers of the department to monitor the progress on daily basis so that the works can be completed on time. In connection with the 650th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas ji, the highway works adjacent to Adampur were also reviewed.

Special emphasis on quality control in road construction

Emphasizing on quality control, the PWD Minister apprised the officials about the government’s policy to ensure good quality work so that public money is not wasted in any way. He further directed that there should be constant checking and inspection at every level by the concerned authorities so that high standards are strictly maintained at the ground level. He asked the officials to ensure strict adherence to necessary sign boards, lane marking and quality control norms at every stage.

Instructions for immediate payment of outstanding demands to the fund

The Cabinet Minister directed all concerned officers to register and pay the outstanding demands to the fund immediately so that there is no delay in the progress of the works.

Road development works will be reviewed again soon

The Public Works Minister said that he will review the progress of the works again soon.

Senior officials of the Public Works Department were present in the meeting.

Secretary Public Works Ravi Bhagat, Joint Secretary Amarbir Sidhu, Engineer-in-Chief Shri Gagandeep Singh, Chief Engineer Shri Anil Gupta, Shri Arshdeep Singh, and Superintending Engineer including executive engineers were present in the meeting.
