There’s some wonderful and comforting news for millions of central government employees and pensioners. A significant 3% increase in their Dearness Allowance (DA) is expected in the coming days. If the government takes such a decision, the current DA for employees will rise from 60% to 63%. However, this will only be confirmed once the central government makes an official announcement.
According to this estimate, the latest data from the Labor Bureau’s All India Consumer Price Index – Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) for June 2026 has been released. This index increased to 151.9 in June. Taking into account the average figures for the past 12 months, the total DA calculation comes to around 63.76%. Since the government typically fixes dearness allowance (DA) in whole numbers, it is estimated to increase to 63%.
If the government approves this 3% DA increase from July 2026, millions of employees across the country will see a significant increase in their monthly salaries. It should be noted that the new recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission have not yet been implemented, resulting in employees still receiving dearness allowance under the rules of the 7th Pay Commission.
This increased DA will directly benefit government employees at different pay levels, based on their basic salary. For example, a Level 1 employee earning a basic pay of ₹18,000 could see a DA increase of approximately ₹540 per month. On the other hand, Level 10 employees with a basic salary of ₹56,100 are expected to receive an additional ₹1,683 per month.
Even if the government announces this DA hike a few months later, but it is considered effective from July 2026, employees will also receive the full benefit of arrears from previous months. Accordingly, a Level 10 employee could receive up to ₹10,098 in arrears, while a Level 1 employee is expected to receive arrears of approximately ₹3,240.
At present, this entire calculation is an estimate based on the latest AICPI-IW data. The final decision on the actual increase in dearness allowance will be made only after the central government and the Finance Ministry approve it. If this 3 percent increase is approved, then its direct benefit will be given to about 1 crore central employees and pensioners of the country.
