Josh Grisetti has passed away at the age of 44. The actor was known for portraying Ralph in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and for appearing in Broadway musicals. Besides appearing in productions, Grisetti served as Associate Professor and Head of the Musical Theatre BFA Program at California State University, Fullerton.
Broadway actor Rob McClure announced that Grisetti died by suicide on July 10, 2026, as reported by Variety. The late Grisetti shared the stage with McClure in the Broadway musical Something Rotten!.
“It is with a shattered heart that I share that the brilliant Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday,” McClure wrote on social media. “I’m not ready to even attempt to understand. My heart is with his wife and family as they try to deal with the reality of this. Some of my all-time favorite memories were by this man’s side, playing his brother onstage for years, watching him inspire students while transforming the Musical Theatre program at Cal State Fullerton …and having the honor of being the Best Man at his wedding. Maggie and I are beyond heartbroken. Communities around the world will never be the same without him. We love you Josh. Just a cataclysmic loss. Memorial info to come in time.”
Grisetti’s other credits include The Good Fight, The Gates, The Immigrant, and more. The actor also wrote and directed several short films in the early 2010s, including It’s an Occupy Christmas! and New & Used. He also authored the light-hearted memoir God in My Head: The True Story of an Ex-Christian Who Accidentally Met God. His theatre credits include Beauty and the Beast, Matilda, SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical, Ragtime, and more.
Grisetti’s agent, Rick Ferrari, told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m absolutely devastated. That’s all I can say.”
Grisetti is survived by his wife, Mackenzie.
News sends condolences to Grisetti’s friends and family at this time.
