As soon as the Kharif season starts, the enthusiasm of farmers regarding chilli farming is increasing. This time compared to last year, due to better prices in the market and reduction in old stock, farmers are preparing to sow chilli on a large scale. Agricultural experts believe that if the weather remains favourable, this time the area of chilli can reach close to the record level.
Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka And farmers in major producing states like Madhya Pradesh have planned to increase the scope of chilli cultivation. Traders also believe that strong demand and better prices are increasing the confidence of farmers this time.
Better prices increased farmers’ interest in Chilli Farming
According to experts, due to record production last year, farmers did not get the expected prices, due to which the area under chilli cultivation had reduced in many areas. But this time the market situation has changed. Due to good prices of chilli, farmers are again returning to its cultivation and are preparing for sowing in more areas.
Sharp increase in prices of many varieties
There has been an increase of about 30 percent in the prices of Teja and Armur varieties used in export. At the same time, the prices of 334 and Super 10 varieties which are in high demand in the domestic market have also increased by about 20 percent. However, prices of some powder varieties used in the spice industry remain soft.
Market got support from less stock
According to traders, at present the carry forward stock (Chilli Farming) in the market is much less as compared to last year. This is the reason why prices are getting continuous support. The demand for spices remains somewhat slow during the rainy season, but purchases from processing companies are expected to increase from August.
Area may increase by 30 percent
Experts associated with the agricultural sector estimate that this time the area under chilli cultivation may increase by about 30 percent. There has also been an increase in the sale of seeds and the highest demand is being seen from the states of South India. However, farmers are still worried about the delay in monsoon.
New crop may arrive by December
Even in many areas of North Karnataka, farmers are giving priority to chilli farming this time. Due to late arrival of rains, the arrival of new crop may reach till December instead of November. In such a situation, chilli prices are expected to remain strong during the current season also.
