Business Desk – Share Market Holiday: If you invest or trade in the share market then this news is very important for you. The country’s major stock markets National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on Thursday 28 May 2026 on the occasion of Bakri Eid/Eid-ul-Adha.
During this period, trading will remain completely closed in all major trading segments including Equity, Derivatives and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB). According to the report, there will be no trading and settlement activity in the stock market on May 28. Normal trading in the market will resume from Friday, May 29, 2026. Due to Bakrid holiday, the trading week will be shorter this week.
Due to the holiday of NSE and BSE, there will be no trading in Equity Market, Futures & Options (F&O), Currency Derivatives and Securities Lending & Borrowing segments. Investors who have not completed their deals till Wednesday. Their settlement cycle may also be affected. According to market experts, due to holiday, T+1 settlement cycle may shift to the next trading day i.e. Friday. Due to this, investors and traders have been advised to be careful in their fund and delivery planning.
While NSE and BSE will remain closed for the whole day, Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed for the morning session. There will be no trading in MCX from 9 am to 5 pm, but the evening session will be started again. Trading will continue from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm. On the other hand, National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed for the whole day.
After Bakrid, there are many more holidays left in the stock market in 2026. The next big holiday will be on the occasion of Muharram on 26 June 2026. Apart from this, the market will also remain closed on Ganesh Chaturthi, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Christmas.
Initially there was confusion regarding the date of Bakrid this year. Due to the moon not being visible, the date of the holiday was changed in many states. In many states including Madhya Pradesh, holiday was first declared on 27th May, but later it was changed to 28th May. After this change, the holiday for stock markets was also fixed on 28th May.
On normal trading days, Indian stock markets open from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm from Monday to Friday. Whereas the pre-opening session runs from 9 am to 9:15 am.
