As soon as the summer season arrives, sweet, juicy and red litchi appear in the markets. There would hardly be anyone who does not like to eat cold and juicy litchi in this season. But the biggest problem with litchi is that if it is kept in a warm or open air place for even a short time, its upper layer (peel) starts drying up rapidly and turning black. As soon as the peel dries, the juice and taste inside it also disappears. Often people immediately put litchi in the refrigerator to prevent it from spoiling, which sometimes changes its natural taste. But if you do not have a fridge in your house or you want to keep it fresh for a long time without a fridge, then you can take the help of these 3 indigenous and very effective tips adopted by the fruit vendors of the market. 1. The magic of cotton cloth or wet towel You must have often noticed that the shopkeepers selling litchi in the market keep splashing water on litchi or keep it covered with a sack. There is a big scientific reason behind this. Due to the moisture of water, the upper hard layer of litchi does not dry up and the pulp inside remains completely juicy. You can also try this trick easily at home. For this, take a clean cotton cloth or a thick towel and wet it thoroughly with water and squeeze it. Now wrap the litchi well in this wet towel and keep it in a cool place. Keep sprinkling light water on the towel in between, this will keep the litchi fresh for many days. 2. Use a large vessel filled with water. If you want to keep the litchi as fresh as if it has just been plucked from the tree, then this method of watering is the best. For this, take a big vessel, tub or deep bowl and fill it completely with clean cold water. After this, dip the litchi brought from the market along with the stalk in that water. By being immersed in water, the temperature of litchi remains controlled and it does not come in contact with the hot air outside. With this remedy the litchi peel will neither turn black nor dry. Whenever you feel like it, remove it from the water and enjoy cold juicy litchi. 3. Keep litchi wrapped in thick brown paper (khaki envelope). To protect the litchi from drying and rotting, using brown paper or khaki envelope is an excellent and tried recipe. Brown paper absorbs excess moisture from the air and provides the necessary warmth and ventilation to the litchi so that it does not spoil quickly. All you have to do is take the litchi out of the plastic foil and wrap or pack it well in a thick brown paper and keep it in a shady and ventilated place. Keep in mind that use brown paper instead of newspaper, because the ink in newspaper can harm the fruits.
