Rishikesh: There was chaos in Rishikesh on Monday night when Ujjaini Express met with an accident during shunting. The train was being taken from Yoganagari railway station towards the shunting line at Khand village, when suddenly the engine collided with the buffer at the end of the line. The collision was so strong that three coaches of the train were damaged. One bogie completely derailed, while the other got bent in the middle.

The accident happened at around 9:42 pm. Hearing the sound like a loud bang, nearby people came out of their houses and shops. Within some time a huge crowd gathered at the spot. Railway employees and police immediately evacuated the area and started relief operations. According to the information, the train had reached Yoganagari station at around 6 pm and it was to leave again on Tuesday morning. For this reason the train was being taken towards the yard at night. It is fortunate that the train was empty at the time of the accident, due to which there was no loss of life.

After the accident, Raiwala railway gate remained closed for about 40 minutes. Due to this, people in many nearby areas had to face problems. Till late night the railway engineering team was busy repairing the track and removing the damaged coaches. According to railway officials, in the initial investigation, there is a possibility of technical glitch or excessive pressure during shunting. At present the entire matter is being investigated. At the same time, videos and pictures of the accident are becoming increasingly viral on social media. Let us tell you that Ujjaini Express is an important train connecting Indore of Madhya Pradesh with Haridwar, Yoganagari Rishikesh and Dehradun.
