Madhya Pradesh:- All private medical stores in the entire state including the capital Bhopal will remain closed on May 20 on the call of ‘Madhya Pradesh Chemist and Druggist Association’ in protest against online medicine trade and the policies of the Central Government. Bhopal Chemists Association President Jitendra Dhakad said that the drug sellers will gather in the drug market at 10 am and will reach the Collectorate at 11 am and submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister in the name of the Collector.
Allegation of violation of Drug and Cosmetic Act
The association alleges that online medicine trade is a flagrant violation of the Drug and Cosmetic Act. Home delivery of medicines without pharmacist monitoring is increasing the risk of counterfeit and expired medicines. Also, the existence of traditional small and medium drug dealers is in danger due to the policy of e-pharmacy companies to sell medicines at prices below their cost (predatory pricing).
Jan Aushadhi Center will remain open for the convenience of patients
The Food and Drug Administration has made alternative arrangements for the convenience of patients during the closure of the drug market. During the strike, all government hospitals, civil hospitals, pharmacies of health centers and Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra will remain open. Apart from this, medical stores located inside private hospitals have also been exempted from closure, so that admitted and emergency patients do not have to face any hassle.
