Orange Cap and Purple Cap Holder List in IPL 2026: On the IPL pitch, the competition is not only for the trophy but also for the cap. Who will wear orange cap, who will wear purple? There has been a huge fight among the players regarding this. At present, the batsman who scored the fastest 3000 runs in T20 is leading in the race for Orange Cap. We are talking about Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudarshan, who has become number 1 in the Orange Cap race after the match played against KKR on the evening of 16 May. RCB fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar still holds the purple cap.
Before the match against KKR, Sai Sudarshan was at second position with 501 runs in 12 matches. The orange cap was adorned on the head of SRH's Heinrich Klaasen, who has 508 runs in 12 matches. But, with scoring 53 runs in 28 balls in the match against KKR, Sai Sudarshan has won the Orange Cap. He now has 554 runs after 13 matches.
During this inning, Sai Sudarshan also achieved the feat of scoring the fastest 3000 runs in T20. Earlier, Australia's Shaun Marsh held the record for the fastest score of 3000 T20 runs in 85 innings. Sai Sudarshan has now broken that record by completing 3000 runs in just 78 innings.
However, Sai Sudarshan still does not have a one-sided lead in the race for the range cap. He is giving tough competition in this race to his own teammate and opening partner Shubman Gill, who is just 2 runs behind him. Shubman Gill has scored 552 runs in 12 matches and he is currently at second position. That is, after the 60th match of IPL 2026, which was played between KKR and GT on May 16, Heinrich Klaasen has slipped from the first position to the third position.
Virat Kohli, who will be seen in action against Punjab Kings on May 17, will now have a big chance to get the Orange Cap by surpassing the GT openers. Virat Kohli currently has 484 runs in 12 matches and is at fourth position in the race for Orange Cap.
Vaibhav Suryavashi will also be in action on 17th May. At present, he is at number 9 in the Orange Cap race after scoring 440 runs in 11 matches. But, if you play a big innings against Delhi Capitals on May 17, you can get closer to getting the Orange Cap or even win it.
The fight for the Purple Cap race is also tight. But, despite facing tough competition, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has managed to maintain his dominance. Bhuvi has 22 wickets in 12 matches. Whereas Gujarat bowler Kagiso Rabada is at second position with 21 wickets in 13 matches.
