
Guwahati, 12 May. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday took oath as the Chief Minister of the northeastern state of Assam for the second consecutive time. Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Himanta Biswa Sarma in a grand ceremony organized at the Veterinary Ground in Khanapara area of the capital.
Governor Laxman Acharya also administered the oath to four other MLAs along with CM Himanta. Other MLAs who took oath included BJP’s Rameshwar Teli and Ajanta Neog, Assam Gana Parishad (AGP)’s Atul Bora and Bodo People’s Front (BPF)’s Charan Boro.

Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Sarbananda Sonowal, Pavitra Margherita, BJP National President Nitin Naveen, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states including Yogi Adityanath, Devendra Fadnavis and Shubhendu Adhikari were also present in the ceremony.
Neog, Bora and Boro were also included in Himanta’s previous cabinet.
Talking about other MLAs who took oath as ministers along with Himanta Sarma, Ajanta Neog, Atul Bora and Charan Boro were also members of the previous cabinet, while Rameshwar Teli, who was a Union Minister, has made a comeback in state politics. In Sarma’s previous government, Neog was the finance minister while Boro held the agriculture department and Boro held the transport department.
NDA government for the third consecutive time
It is noteworthy that NDA government has been formed in Assam for the third consecutive time while this will be the second term of Chief Minister Himanta. The most interesting fact is that BJP has achieved majority on its own for the first time by winning 82 seats in the state which has 126 assembly seats. Whereas AGP and BPF have got 10 seats each. Thus, this time NDA has achieved a huge majority with 102 seats.
