Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented the budget for the year 2026. In this, along with announcing schemes for all the sectors, announcements have also been made for the health sector. Nirmala Sitharaman has established Biopharma Shakti to improve the health sector.
He said that for this, healthcare advancement will have to be done in the field of knowledge, technology and innovation. The Finance Minister said that the burden of diseases in India is increasing and it is now moving from non-communicable diseases to diabetes, cancer and autoimmune disorders.
For this, the Finance Minister has announced to provide Rs 10 thousand crore for the next five years. Biologics and biosimilars will be produced through this.
Existing AHPs will be upgraded and new AHP institutions will also be opened in private and government sectors. In this, focus will be on optometry, radiology, anesthesia, OT technology, applied psychology. There is a plan to build one lakh AHPs in the next five years.
Five regional medical hubs will be set up to promote medical tourism in India. Private sector will also be included in this. This medical hub will work as a healthcare complex which will have medical, educational and research facilities. There will be AYUSH centres, Medical Value Tourism Facilitation Centre.
The Finance Minister said that the government wants Ayurvedic products to be exported so that the farmers growing Ayurvedic plants can be helped. For this, 3 new All India Institutes of Ayurveda will be established, along with AYUSH Pharmacy and Drug Testing Lab will be upgraded and WHO Global Traditional Medicine Center located in Jamnagar will be improved.
During the budget, Sitharaman said that there is not a single national institute to mental health in North India. For this, NIMHANS-2 will be established in Ranchi and Tezpur.
Bio Pharma SHAKTI is a scheme introduced in this budget, whose full form is Bio Pharma Strategy for Health Advancement through Knowledge Technology and Innovation. Rs 10 thousand crores have been allocated under this scheme. Its objective is to develop India as a bio-pharma hub. Through this, the government aims to create a strong ecosystem for the production of bio-pharma products.
