's live broadcast of Trooping the Colour suffered a number of blunders as presenter covered the procession in celebration of 's official birthday. As well as technical difficulties, viewers took to social media to complain that one of the most anticipated moments of the celebration was missing.
During the procession, riders travelled from to Horse Guards and then back for a heartwarming balcony reunion. But many Royal fans tune in to see the ceremonial event marked by the 41-round gun salute. However, the proud tradition was noticeably late to screens; instead, presenter Radzi Chinyanganya was on the ground speaking live to those associated with the remarkable day.
Part way through the interview, the sounds of gunshots could be heard bellowing out behind them leaving many disgruntled fans annoyed by its absence.
It didn't take long before viewers flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their disappointment online, as one viewer fumed: "Sounds like the gun salute is taking place, just not on screen for some reason #troopingthecolour."
Another agreed: "We can see the gun salute now, we couldn't see it before [confused emoji] #troopingthecolour".
After their interview concluded, the screen flashed to the gun salute mid-procession but was quickly moved on by host Clare Balding in the build up to the annual RAF flypast and the royal family's iconic balcony appearance.
Another annoyed viewer penned: "The gun salute has disappeared off screen [confused emoji] #troopingthecolour."
During a gun salute, teams of horses pull six thirteen-pounder guns at speed over the grass. The guns are quickly detached and, upon command, fire booming blanks which reverberate through the ground, sending a puff of white smoke into the air.
They're given as a sign of respect or welcome upon various important Royal occasions, and alongside Trooping The Colour, gun salutes also take place during Accession Day in September, The King's Birthday in November and on Coronation Day.
As the gun salute returned to screens, it was explained: "It's standard Royal salute for the King is 21 guns, and this stems from Navy precedence when a ship entered a port, they would discharge their armouries to show no hostile intent.
"A full exchange of that was 21 guns; however, because it's in a Royal park, an additional 20 is added, so 41 guns."
