New Delhi: Indias upcoming five-match Test series against England starting June 20 marks their World Test Championship 2025-27 debut and their first Test series since the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The teams success hinges significantly on Jasprit Bumrahs performance although workload management may limit him to three or four matches. Ravichandran Ashwin recently disclosed information about Bumrahs recovery from a prolonged back injury.
During a conversation with RevSportz R Ashwin stated that Jasprit Bumrahs fatigue became apparent only during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne where Bumrah informed the team of his physical limitations. His subsequent breakdown occurred during the fifth Test in Sydney. Ashwin also criticized the insufficient use of sports science and technology in addressing Bumrahs condition.
We havent really made use of sports science and technology when it comes to Bumrah. At the moment it is all very subjective. In Australia also it wasnt until Melbourne that Jassi said he was tired and his body wasnt giving more. Thereafter he broke down in Sydney. There are some real lessons here. And thats what will define how you use him in England he said.
See it is subjective to say he will play three Tests or four Tests. Why not two and why not four? Now we can measure everything and then when you add to it how the player is feeling you can come to a near-perfect assessment of where you stand with Jassi.
