The Indian spin all-rounder Axar Patel was the only third man after Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer who made some decent contribution with the bat. Patel scored 44 runs off 40 balls before he got out in the 41st ball, courtesy to Mitchell Starc's stunning catch at the boundary.
Axar Patel was dismissed after attempting a lofted off-drive. He connected well, but Mitchell Starc ran in from long-off, adjusted his position with a few sideways shuffles, leapt near the boundary, and caught the ball before it crossed the ropes.

India posts 264 runs after final overs arm wrestle
India posted 264/9 in 50 overs in the first innings at Adelaide, with Rohit Sharma leading the way with a composed 73 off 97 balls, including seven boundaries and two sixes. Shreyas Iyer anchored the middle order with 61 off 77 balls, while Axar Patel provided a late boost. Harshit Rana’s unbeaten 24 off 18 balls added crucial runs towards the end, with Arshdeep Singh mostly by his side.
The innings started poorly for India as Shubman Gill (9) and Virat Kohli (0) fell within the first seven overs, leaving the team reeling at 17/2. Rohit and Iyer rebuilt the innings with a 118-run partnership, taking India to a more competitive total. However, once Rohit fell in the 30th over, wickets fell at regular intervals, with KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy all dismissed cheaply, slowing the momentum.
For Australia, Adam Zampa was the most successful bowler with 4/60, while Xavier Bartlett took 3/39, and Mitchell Starc claimed 2/62. Josh Hazlewood’s economical spell of 10 overs for 29 runs also kept the scoring rate in check. India finished with a run rate of 5.28, setting Australia a target of 265 to win.
